How to engage the Weekly Watch Prayers.
In preparing these prayer points, I am mindful of the fact that many of us minister in other places and spaces. Some of us come back to the prayers and want to engage more, so, I give more.
However, for a weekly watch, this might be too much, therefore, here is how to go about it.
There are three main prayer points that begin with #. Each prayer point has a minimum of six sub-prayer points.
You are not expected to pray all (unless you want to). Take a minimum of 3 from each section and pray through effectively.
With that out of the way, let us pray.
#1. Acknowledging God’s Role in Promotion
Acknowledging God’s Role in Promotion
- Verses: Genesis 45:5-8 – “But now, do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life… So now it was not you who sent me here, but God; and He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.”
- Theme: Joseph acknowledges that his promotion and position of authority were orchestrated by God. He recognizes that his journey, though painful, was part of God’s plan to promote him and save lives.
Acknowledging God’s Role in Promotion
- Verses: Genesis 48:3-4 – “Then Jacob said to Joseph, ‘God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and there he blessed me and said to me, “I am going to make you fruitful and increase your numbers. I will make you a community of peoples, and I will give this land as an everlasting possession to your descendants after you.”‘”
- Theme: Jacob acknowledges that the blessings and promotion he is about to impart to Ephraim and Manasseh are rooted in God’s covenant promises. This emphasizes that promotion comes from God, who fulfills His promises across generations.
Acknowledging God’s Role in Promotion
- Verses: Genesis 50:19-20 – “But Joseph said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God? But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.'”
- Theme: Joseph explicitly acknowledges that his rise to power and the events that led to his promotion were orchestrated by God. He recognizes that what was intended for harm, God used for good, demonstrating God’s sovereign role in his elevation and the preservation of life.

Spiritual Preparation for Promotion

Spiritual Preparation for Promotion
- Verses: Genesis 47:7 – “Then Joseph brought his father Jacob in and presented him before Pharaoh. After Jacob blessed Pharaoh…”
- Theme: Jacob’s blessing of Pharaoh reflects spiritual maturity and preparation. Despite being a foreigner and a shepherd, Jacob, as the patriarch, stands in a position of spiritual authority to bless the most powerful man in the land. This act highlights the spiritual preparation that underpins Joseph’s promotion and the favour his family receives.
Spiritual Preparation for Promotion
- Verses: Genesis 48:15-16 – “Then he blessed Joseph and said, ‘May the God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked faithfully, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day, the Angel who has delivered me from all harm—may he bless these boys. May they be called by my name and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac, and may they increase greatly on the earth.'”
- Theme: Jacob’s blessing over Ephraim and Manasseh is a spiritual preparation for their future roles. By invoking the names of Abraham, Isaac, and his own, Jacob spiritually aligns them with the legacy and covenant of their forefathers, preparing them for promotion and greatness.
Spiritual Preparation for Promotion
- Verses: Genesis 49:22-26 – “Joseph is a fruitful vine, a fruitful vine near a spring, whose branches climb over a wall. With bitterness archers attacked him; they shot at him with hostility. But his bow remained steady, his strong arms stayed limber, because of the hand of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel, because of your father’s God, who helps you, because of the Almighty, who blesses you with blessings of the skies above, blessings of the deep springs below, blessings of the breast and womb. Your father’s blessings are greater than the blessings of the ancient mountains, than the bounty of the age-old hills. Let all these rest on the head of Joseph, on the brow of the prince among his brothers.”
- Theme: Joseph’s journey, marked by suffering and endurance, reflects spiritual preparation for his promotion. His strength and resilience, despite adversities, prepared him to be a leader and “the prince among his brothers.” His promotion is attributed to the help and blessings of God, highlighting the necessity of spiritual readiness for elevation.

Lord, Your Word tells me to come boldly before Your throne of grace to receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. I come asking for Your grace and favour so that I might be equipped with everything I need for the promotion You have in store. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer 5: Pursuit of Wisdom
Scripture Reference: Proverbs 4:7-8

Father, Your Word tells me that wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, I seek Your wisdom above all else. Prayer 7: God Will Come To Your Aid
Scripture Reference: Genesis 50:24

I trust You to guide and lead me through every transition. I also bring my sacrifice to Your altar in faith for the promotion that You have divinely ordained for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
#3. Breaking Barriers to Promotion
Breaking Barriers to Promotion
- Verses: Genesis 47:5-6 – “Pharaoh said to Joseph, ‘Your father and your brothers have come to you, and the land of Egypt is before you; settle your father and your brothers in the best part of the land. Let them live in Goshen. And if you know of any among them with special ability, put them in charge of my own livestock.'”
- Theme: The elevation of Joseph’s family from mere shepherds to overseers of Pharaoh’s livestock breaks the cultural and societal barriers between Egyptians and Hebrews. This elevation is a significant barrier-breaking moment, demonstrating how God can remove obstacles to promotion.
Breaking Barriers to Promotion
- Verses: Genesis 48:17-19 – “When Joseph saw his father placing his right hand on Ephraim’s head he was displeased; so he took hold of his father’s hand to move it from Ephraim’s head to Manasseh’s head. Joseph said to him, ‘No, my father, this one is the firstborn; put your right hand on his head.’ But his father refused and said, ‘I know, my son, I know. He too will become a people, and he too will become great. Nevertheless, his younger brother will be greater than he, and his descendants will become a group of nations.'”
- Theme: Jacob’s decision to place his right hand on Ephraim, the younger son, breaks the traditional barrier of firstborn preference. This unconventional blessing demonstrates that divine promotion is not limited by human customs or expectations. Ephraim’s elevation above Manasseh exemplifies how God can bypass norms to fulfill His purposes.
Breaking Barriers to Promotion
- Verses: Genesis 49:13-14 – “Zebulun will live by the seashore and become a haven for ships; his border will extend toward Sidon. Issachar is a rawboned donkey lying down among the sheep pens.”
- Theme: Jacob’s prophecies over his sons break traditional barriers by forecasting different roles and territories that extend beyond their current status. For example, Zebulun’s future role as a maritime power breaks the barrier of land-based living, positioning him for economic and territorial expansion.
Here are scriptures for you to meditate upon in your time: 2 Corinthians 4:4, Isaiah 59:14-15, Ezekiel 13:4-5, Genesis 49:3-4, Joel 2:25, Acts 5:19-20.

Fill me with boldness and courage to walk in the freedom You have provided, even as I declare Your Word and fulfil Your will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
