Each prayer point has a guided time for you to pray. The goal is not to limit you to the time stipulated but to help you spend a minimum of 5 minutes praying. Please feel free to adjust as you are led.
- The eyes became corrupted.
Genesis 3: 4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.
Eve was not blind before now, so how come her eyes opened? Her eyes opened to the realm of darkness, and her sight became corrupted. God said 16 But the Lord God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden— 17 except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.” Genesis 2:16-17.
When Adam and Eve’s eyes opened, Seeing changed her body; her body began to decay.
Pray – 5 minutes
By the blood of Jesus, let everything that has corrupted my eyes be cleansed. Everything that blinds me be cleansed by the Blood of Jesus.
Every corruption of my sight be cleansed by the Blood of Jesus
Every corruption of my vision be cleansed by the Blood of Jesus
Everything not making me see clearly, whether physically or spiritually, be cleansed by the Blood of Jesus.
O Lord, remove every dross from my eyes by Your Holy fire.
What happens when your eye is full of light?
2. You perceive correctly.
2 Kings 6:17: “Then Elisha prayed and said, ‘O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.’ So, the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
The Lord has made them both.In 2 Kings 6:17, the prophet Elisha prays for his servant’s eyes to be opened so that he can see the spiritual reality that surrounds them.
In this story, the king of Aram sent his army to capture Elisha. When Elisha’s servant saw the overwhelming military force surrounding them, he became fearful and distressed. This means what he perceived was danger. In response to his servant’s distress, Elisha prayed for his eyes to be opened.
Elisha desired that his servant would be able to perceive the supernatural protection and assistance that God had provided. Through the power of God, the servant’s spiritual eyes were opened, revealing a heavenly army of horses and chariots of fire stationed on the mountain, ready to defend Elisha. Therefore, His perception of the situation changed.
The spiritual realm is real but is often unseen to human eyes. We need to grow in our discernment spiritually. The overwhelming physical army was overshadowed by the far greater power and protection of God’s heavenly forces. The servant’s eyes were illuminated.
For this to happen, Elisha prayed for his servant. The servant perceived with his natural eyes, but his eyes needed to be enlightened hence the prayer for enlightenment. If you ask God to enlighten your eyes, He will, just as he did for the servant.
Ask for enlightenment into the invisible realm.
Pray – 5 minutes
Father, open my eyes to see and perceive the spiritual realm.
Father, open my eyes to see beyond the natural realm.
Grant me access into the spiritual realm.
3. You judge rightly – 5 minutes.
Matthew 7: “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. 3 And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye.
Judgment is the ability to make sound decisions and to discern right from wrong.
We judge others based on the amount of light we have. Jesus warns that we cannot judge correctly until we have removed the plank in our eyes. We will keep seeing flaws in other people. This means that the amount of light we have will impact how we judge situations.
John 9:39-41 recounts a conversation between Jesus and some Pharisees after Jesus had healed a man who was born blind. The passage states:
“Jesus said, ‘For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.’ Some of the Pharisees near him heard these things, and said to him, ‘Are we also blind?’ Jesus said to them, ‘If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, “We see,” your guilt remains.'”
In this dialogue, Jesus uses the physical healing of the blind man as an opportunity to address a deeper spiritual truth. He explains that His purpose in coming into the world is to bring judgment, separating those who are spiritually blind and receptive to His message from those who claim to have spiritual sight but reject Him.
Jesus declares that He came to enable those who recognize their spiritual blindness to “see” and find spiritual insight and salvation through Him. By acknowledging their need for Him, they receive the light of truth and the opportunity for spiritual transformation.
Conversely, Jesus states that those who claim to have spiritual sight, as the Pharisees did, yet reject Him, remain in their spiritual blindness. They are self-deceived and unwilling to accept the truth that He offers. Their refusal to acknowledge their need for Him and their rejection of His message leaves them guilty of their sin.
When the Pharisees respond, asking if they are also blind, Jesus explains that if they recognized their spiritual blindness and acknowledged their need for Him, their guilt would be lifted. However, their guilt remains since they claim to have spiritual sight and reject Him.
Jesus is the light of the world. He is our light. In His light we see. We must acknowledge that we cannot see clearly without His light and seek His light so we can judge rightly.
Pray – 5 minutes
Father, it is very easy to see other people’s flaws and judge them. I ask that You shine Your light on my flaws so that I can repent and see clearly.
I pray the eyes of my understanding will be enlightened so that I can make sound judgements as the occasion demands.
4. Sound health
Deuteronomy 34: 7 Moses was one hundred and twenty years old when he died. His eyes were not dim nor his natural vigor diminished.
The Holy Spirit showed me something in this verse of scripture. Moses’ eyes were not dim, and his natural vigour did not diminish. Why? Because of the amount of light in him. He saw God face to face.
EXODUS 33: 11 So the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle.
Numbers 12: 8 I speak with him face to face,
Even plainly, and not in dark sayings;
And he sees the form of the Lord.
Why then were you not afraid
To speak against My servant Moses?
There were things that Moses did. He spent so much time in the presence of God that when he came out, his face shone. He was radiating light. Dear friend, this is God’s desire for you and me.
What must we do for our eyes to be full of light?
- Spend time with Him
Commit today to start spending personal time with God. Understand that this personal time is not the same as the congregational time (very important too). This personal time is your me and God’s time. You can call it “alone with my Father time.’ If you have not already done so, why not set a daily time starting with 5 minutes to be quiet in God’s presence? Same time daily. Make it the altar of meeting.
Write down your commitment.
Pray – 5 minutes
Proverbs 16: 3 Commit your actions to the Lord,
and your plans will succeed.
Let’s do this for a month and see what happens.
Father, I commit my actions (the time alone with my Father) unto You so that my plans will succeed. I want to spend 5 minutes a day waiting on You for the next 30 days. I receive the grace and discipline to do this in the name of Jesus.
I take authority over every power of distraction, I cancel anything that wants to prevent me from having this time in the name of Jesus.
2. Set your eyes above.
Abrahams’s eyes saw the stars – what did it birth in him? Possibilities – of all things, God used the stars (light) to speak to Abraham about being the Father of nations.
Genesis 15: 5 Then the Lord took Abram outside and said to him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!”
6 And Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith.
2 Corinthians 4:18: “As we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”
In 2 Corinthians 4:18, the apostle Paul encourages us to fix our gaze on the eternal rather than the transient things of the world.
Paul’s statement underscores the importance of having a perspective rooted in faith and focusing on eternal realities. He contrasts this world’s visible, temporary things with the unseen, everlasting things of God’s kingdom.
By “things that are seen,” Paul refers to our earthly existence’s physical, tangible aspects. This includes material possessions, temporal pleasures, worldly success, and any other aspects of life that our physical senses can perceive. However, Paul emphasizes that these things are temporary and subject to change. They are passing away and do not hold lasting significance.
Paul says, do not look at the things that are seen. Do not look at the things that suggest a reality contrary to what God has spoken concerning you and your family. Instead, gaze at the things of eternal value, look to His Word and the light of God will illuminate our beings. Then truly, we become the light of the world.
When we gaze at earthly things (the lust of the eyes, the pride of life) though they may appear attractive, it can never compare with the light that comes from He who dwells in unapproachable light. It is time to prioritize the pursuit of God, His truth, and His purposes. This perspective enables us to navigate the challenges and trials of life with hope, knowing that the ultimate reality lies in the eternal promises of God. Now, we must fix our eyes on Christ and seek the things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God (Colossians 3:1).
Psalm 16: 8 I have set the Lord always before me;
Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.
9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices;
My flesh also will rest in hope.
Psalm 34: 5 They looked to Him and were radiant,
And their faces were not ashamed.
Prayer – 5 minutes
Father, You are the Father of Lights, and You dwell in unapproachable light,
One thing I desire, Lord and that I seek after, it is to behold your glory. In Your light, I see.
In Your light, I see as You see, Father, cause my eyes to see my circumstances the way You see them.
In Your light, I see. I choose to pursue Your truth and purposes to navigate life’s challenges and trials with hope. My reality is in your eternal promises.
As I gaze at You, I am being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by Your Spirit. Light is increasing within, and darkness is dispersing.
(Think about a situation that you are currently facing or a loved one is facing. Ask The Lord to illuminate your eyes and cause you to see as He sees. Pray that the way out of this situation will be revealed in Jesus’ name.
Pray for wisdom
3. Meditate on the Word
Psalm 119: 18 Open my eyes, that I may see
Wondrous things from Your law.
Proverbs 29:13 – “The poor man and the oppressor meet together; the Lord gives light to the eyes of both.”
God is the source of all light; even those oppressed or marginalized can receive spiritual illumination. We are all equal in the eyes of God, and our social or economic status does not limit spiritual vision.
Psalm 19:8 – “The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.”
This verse highlights the connection between spiritual truth and enlightenment. The more we gaze at the Word, meditating day and night, our spiritual vision is illuminated, allowing us to see the world in a new and profound way.
Pray – 5 minutes
Lord, You give light to all. Your Word is a light unto my feet and a lamp unto my path.
Cause Your Word to open to me, give me deep insights into Your Word. Open my understanding to know the riches of Your Word in Jesus’ name. Amen.
4. Make A covenant with Your eyes.
Job 31: “I have made a covenant with my eyes;
Why then should Iook upon a young woman?
Psalm 101: 3 I will set nothing wicked before my eyes;
I hate the work of those who fall away;
It shall not cling to me.
Psalm 119: 37 Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things,
And revive me in Your way.
As I prepared for this Watch, the Lord opened my eyes to this scripture. Indeed, we should make a covenant with our eyes. For some people, it might be refraining from pornography. But for some others, it might be television and things that diminish the light in us.
Pray – 5 minutes
Make a covenant with my eyes. I will not gaze at worthless things. My eyes are pure; I will not gaze at things that do not honour God.
God’s eyes are too pure to behold iniquity, and so are my eyes. I refuse to gaze at worthless things that diminish the light within.
Finally, You need faith to see
Matthew 6:22-24
“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!”
Your perception is closely linked to faith. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
Faith is the ability to see beyond the physical world and to trust in someone greater than ourselves. It requires a perception that is not limited by our physical senses.
Seeing requires faith.
Mark 10:46-52. Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, hears that Jesus is passing by and cries out for mercy. Jesus stops and asks him what he wants, and Bartimaeus replies, “Rabbi, I want to see.” Jesus then tells him, “Go, your faith has healed you.”
Bartimaeus’ physical blindness is cured, but more importantly, he gains spiritual sight through his faith in Jesus.
As we pray for sight, we have to believe that we will see because we asked., We must believe that God wants us to see. Jesus asked, and Bartimaeus said, “I want to see.”
The lamp within us represents the light of faith that illuminates our path and guides us through life’s challenges. Without faith, the lamp within would be extinguished, and we would be left in darkness.
A healthy eye represents healthy faith, while a bad eye symbolizes a lack of faith. The lamp within is only as strong as our faith, and it is up to us to nurture and strengthen our faith through prayer, meditation, and a deepening understanding of the Word of God.
Pray
Jesus, I want to see.
I believe that I will see. I believe every prayer I have made today has been heard, and I will see.
I believe every seed of corruption in my eyes has been removed by my faith.
By faith, I believe that I perceive and judge things correctly.
By faith, I have sound health because I have set the Lord always before me
By faith, my eyes are full of light, and so is my body.
By faith, I have made a covenant with my eyes not to behold worthless things in Jesus’ name, amen.
Wow, give praise to God for this powerful time in God’s presence. Please meditate on your eye gate throughout this week and remember to spend 5 minutes with your Heavenly Father.
